I'll give it a moment to realize it's been paused and will look at the CPU usage, but so far, it's still using up all the CPU and it's been about 3 minutes. I had never seen that option, but I just looked, and sure enough, there's a "Pause/Resume" option. Isn't there a way you can pause/stop it without closing the whole program? As a result, it never actually completes the detection phase, and as such, never initiates the backup of the files.Ĭurrent status, according to their app, is that the backup hasn't completed in over 40 days, which is kind of a big issue as we're supposed to have real-time backup.ĮDIT: just realized you were talking about crashplan as the app, not your internal app. When the app restarts, it restarts its modified file detection from scratch. But there's a big problem with this solution. That mostly solves our daytime CPU usage issue (except for the times when the app does not actually stop in the morning). So the alternative was to stop the application (it runs as an app, and not a service) during business hours, and starts it back at the end of the day. Therefore, while scanning for modified documents, it's still using 80-90% of CPU, which takes us back to the original problem. So I thought, for a trial, I'd set the max CPU to 20%, but although it might help with the backup portion, it's not respecting that CPU usage limit for the scanning portion. However, the "in use" portion is detected by mouse/keyboard usage, which of course, never happens as this is a headless server. It was also suggested to change the CPU usage to a lower number when the computer is "in use". It was suggested that we should update to the newer version, which we did about a month ago. The issue we originally had is that CrashPlan was eating up much CPU while scanning/backing up files. On that same hardware, we have SQL running, providing data for an in-house application. We have a Server2012 file server with a few million files, of various sizes, in a bunch of folders. They don't have a suggestion for me at the moment, but will "think about it and get back to me". For the record, I just ended a chat session with the CrashPlan support team. I'm hoping some of you might have had a similar experience and might be able to suggest something that might assist.
